If you would like to come along and experience the choir, you are more than welcome to join us from Wednesday 4th Sept 2024 from 7.30pm.  No auditions necessary - just come along!       Encore Voices is an amateur, mixed voice choir of over 50 singers who perform a range of choral music from medieval through classical to romantic, together with a wide variety of secular music. Encore Voices Choir was established in 2015 and was formerly known as the Mount Anville Choral Society, under the direction of Karen Ni Bhroin. In mid 2016 John Doyle took up the baton and our name became Encore Voices Choir. Our repertoire is varied, and has included works by Haydn, Faure, Morley, Puccini, Dowland, Verdi, Tallis and, in contrast, Gershwin, Bernstein, Burns, Mac Domhnaill, Weil and Lloyd Webber. These together with arrangements by Rutter and Chilcott have given us a very wide and hugely enjoyable musical experience. We have been very fortunate to sing in some of Dublin's most historic locations, such as Monkstown Parish Church, St Stephens Church, Mount Merrion Parish Church and St Bartholomews Church. We have also performed in many Irish music venues including the National Concert Hall, the Pavillion Theatre, Armagh Cathedral, The Waterfront, Belfast and the 3 Arena, Dublin. Other notable venues include the Royal Hospital Donnybrook, DLR Lexicon and, for our annual carol singing, Grafton Street, Dublin.[/text]

John Doyle Musical Director

John Doyle

Musical Director

John Doyle is one of Ireland's most exciting and innovative conductors. After graduating from Trinity College Dublin and the Royal Irish Academy of Music with first class honours, John studied with figures such as George Hurst, (UK) Atso Almila (Finland), Rodolfo Saglimbeni (Venezuela) and Benjamin Zander (USA). He now divides his time equally between choral and orchestral conducting. John is a passionate advocate of new music. He has been Artistic Director of Co-Orch Dublin since 2011 where his work focuses on 20th century and contemporary repertoire. He has commissioned new works for the orchestra by award winning young composers such as Sam Perkin, Bryan Pepper, Ena Brennan, Elis Czerniak, Luke Duffy, Amy Rooney and Tom Lane as well as giving the Irish premieres of works by internationally recognised composers such as Max Richter. Recent collaborations with nationally and internationally acclaimed soloists include Patrick Rafter (Prokofiev Violin Concerto no. 1), Alexander Bernstein (Gershwin Piano Concerto), Ailbhe McDonagh (Elgar and Shostakovich Cello Concertos), Aisling Reily (Tubin Double Bass Concerto) Roisin Walters (Bach A minor and Sibelius Violin Concertos) and Colm O' Braoin (Richter's Four Seasons recomposed.) Notable projects include 'A Midsummer Rights Theme' and Concert for Paris. 'A Midsummer Rights Theme', performed on International Music Day, was a groundbreaking re-imagining of Beethoven's 9th Symphony which saw this seminal piece performed alongside four world premieres representing Ireland's most exciting young composers' responses to Beethoven's epic Choral Symphony. Concert for Paris, a performance of Faure's Requiem by musicians from all parts of the island of Ireland, was recorded and broadcast by RTE. John is also Music Director of Dun Laoghaire Choral Society, Cantairi Avondale and, of course Encore Voices Dublin. He has worked with all of Ireland's major musical institutions including RTE and a host of international recording artists such as Andrea Bocelli, Catherine Jenkins and Howard Shore. 'It takes an extraordinary musician to turn an emotion into an idea, and that idea into reality. John Doyle is that extraordinary musician.' Irish Examiner.
